About Me

Skiing in Colorado!
I am a pediatrician in private practice since 1997. Before medical school I went to DePauw University, and then spent 2 1/2 years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Honduras working with fish farmers. I graduated with my medical degree from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, then went on to the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics for pediatric residency. I am board certified in pediatrics. I am married, and the mother of three girls.

I am an avid reader, and especially enjoy books written for teens and young adults. I think some of the best science fiction and fantasy novels are written for this age group.

I love being with my family, and because of my dedication and interest in being with them I have been pulled out of my comfort zone into learning to downhill ski. I even once ran a 5K, and have biked on the Kalhaven trail in the company of my husband and kids!

My favorite place in the world is at my parents' cottage on a lake in Indiana. I love the sound and smell of the water and waves, catching turtles and frogs with my girls, as well as nieces and nephews, and going for boat rides on the lake.

I scrapbook--now mostly on my computer instead of traditional scrapbooking. Gardening is fun for me, though I am definitely an amateur and don't always remember the names of the plants in my yard.

I try very hard to protect my time with my family, to be a good listener to my daughters and husband, to be a good mother, to be home for family dinners, and to keep my family's calendar organized.

One of the most important life lessons I want to teach my children comes from Luke 6:31, NIV: Do to others as you would have them do to you. I try to live my life with this in mind. Although each day I find ways I could do this better, I just keep trying.
